Upon completing their respective Masters degrees at the University of South Wales, Australia, Jimmy Gunawan and Michelle Tanaya assumed responsibility for several businesses in Kuta, Bali.
At a time of significant changes in the hospitality industry, Jimmy and Michelle saw the opportunity for creating a collection of stylish and distinctive boutique properties, giving guests more than just the usual, forgettable experience.
They began by renovating and rebranding their largest Kuta property at the time, Alaya Dedaun Kuta. Playing to their strengths and past experience - Jimmy's brilliant business mind for finance, development, sales and marketing, and Michelle's incredible knowledge of design, and meticulous eye for detail- the pair had found an outstanding combination.
They have since gone on to open, own and manage a collection of successful brands, including award-winning wellness facility DaLa Spa, Indonesian cuisine restaurant, Manisan, East Meet West culinary, Petani, the 106-room boutique resort, Alaya Resort Ubud, the 12 private villa, Alaya Dedaun Kuta, Tans Bakery, Tanaya Bed and Breakfast and the International Conference Center Bali. With their entrepreneurial eyes firmly on future of an evolving hospitality industry, Jimmy and Michelle have exciting new plans in motion.
